Africa is a continent of extreme diversity, geographically, culturally, politically, economically, and historically. The high dynamism that exists in all African countries is stronger than ever before. By the middle of this century, Africa could have around two and a half billion inhabitants, making it a quarter of the world’s population. The population growth will mainly soar in urban areas: According to forecasts, the number of urban residents is expected to triple and the number of megacities to quintuple.
But not only is the process of urbanization constantly being driven forward, but the middle class is also growing rapidly. This is associated with growing incomes, which in turn initiate increased consumption. This brings with it long-term investments in education and a higher level of education, and thus also a greater attractiveness as a production location
In addition, Africa has immense potential for renewable energy and agricultural production, strategically important raw materials, and growing sales markets. The growing population needs a reliable and sustainable power supply, which can be secured through photovoltaic systems. In addition, a lot of new employment opportunities for the very young society, which needs around 25 million new jobs every year, are of absolute importance. To this end, new technologies such as photovoltaics and electromobility offer a platform for a technological and sociological transformation on the African continent.
